I took this picture whilst walking the Dales Way from Ilkley near my home to Bowness on Windermere in the Lake District. During the morning I’d had every kind of poor weather – wind, rain and snow. But as I dropped down into upper Dentdale the sun came out. Many miles to walk in the remainder of the day before the sun set meant that I couldn’t spend time on composition and waiting for the light as I normally would with my landscape photography. This was just the scene as I passed through. Travelling light also meant using my little Panasonic LX3 compact camera, although I did allow myself the extra weight of a single neutral graduated filter!
