The Thief

You who stole my name
rubbed away at the stone
carved deep against the silence of centuries
Justice is a road
not a sword
Justice is a goddess with a feather in her hand

You grasp for what shines and retches its glory
while I carry this weight within — organs entombed in their painted jars

On a day not yet determined
I will rise and go to your crumbling monument
kiss the feet of the statue there
and give thanks for the indifference you bestowed
if there is anger still
on that day I will bury it
deep in the sand
in the shadows of that ravaged facade
