Sorry to inflict my attempt at poetry on you, but I’ve been wanting to paint something to go with this poem for a long time.
It was based on someone very special to me some years ago, but as the poem suggests reality is a pretty harsh beast sometimes, so the “soaring” unfortunately ended.
Still, I hope you like the end results, literarily and artistically :)

Our Love Takes Flight
The ink black shadows of the night,
A new day born.
Sunlight’s white pixies,
On my lover’s form.
You dream, peaceful in our bed,
Your breathe a whisper.
The only sound my sighing,
My heart a quiet purr.
I turn, my hand reaching, gently,
Fingertips on silken skin.
Your eyes, crystal pools of love,
My soul drowns in them.
Our eyes meet, our hearts,
You take my hand, a kiss.
And liquid jewels trickle,
For loving times we’ll miss
Reality envelops, its constant needs,
Urging us to part.
But the protective womb of our embrace,
A warm soft shield of comfort.
Reality breaks down our door,
But reality is blind, our love so bright
It searches, cannot find us,
As our love soars, on gossamer wings takes flight.
