Different take on fall foliage photography from earlier this year.

Was very impressed with the fall colors this year, even though we were only around for the tail end of the foliage season. Already looking forward to next year’s fall…

    Very nice work. If you use these exact same settings, and rotate the camera during the exposure and/ or wind out the lens (in manual focus), it is possible to get a “vortex” effect, with the centre roughly in focus. Also if you reverse the panning of the camera body about 2/3rds of the way into the exposure, its possible to get a cubistic effect where the streaks cut off and reverse back on each other.

    I’ve experimented with the vortex effect for several years with mixed results. Must confess I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so most people won’t see the trial/error phase of those “tests”. Occasionally I’ll post one that really worked out…
