Profile

I enjoy walks on foot-trails near beaches, meadows, and mountains – preferably with a trail-loving dog – woof!

I like making cat toys.

I collect brushed fur in the hopes of spinning some yarn.

I enjoy playing music and listening to live music.

I own and operate the following (mostly as a beginner): guitar, banjo, ukulele, clarinet, flute, tenor sax, trumpet, keyboard, djembe, didgeridoos, fife, soprano and tenor recorders, penny whistles, harmonicas, Jew’s harp, gourd thumb piano from Africa, pan flute from Thailand, transverse flute from Korea, practice chanter (for learning the bagpipes), and a few auxiliary percussion items.

I like experimenting with alternate tunings on my stringed instruments.

I enjoy studying foreign languages, ecology, history, mythology, religion, wilderness survival, alternative medicine, and reading biographies, memoirs, travel journals, and good fantasy/sci-fi novels.

I like dribbling two soccer balls up and down the field – it’s a wide-stanced, half-sitting, bow-legged sort of waddle (gluts) – and monkeying around on the monkey bars (what gym membership?!)

NPR, Comedy Central Presents, and Nature on PBS are among my favorite programs to tune in to.

YES! Magazine is my favorite magazine.

I’m passionate about raising the awareness of myself and others in order to promote living in a more verdant, just, and peaceful world.

I’m passionate about stories …Stories that express the interconnectedness and unity of all things …Stories that inspire noble character

I was recently a care-giver for a 79-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s. I walk dogs, pet-sit, and volunteer as a tutor/music teacher.

I like fractals… I like the words ‘microcosm’, ‘mesocosm’, and ‘macrocosm’... I’m spiritually scientific…

Life is an experiment!

  • I want to live abroad, immersed in a different language/culture, probably as an English teacher or translator.

I’ve been studying various SE Asian Languages – Burmese, Cambodian, Lao, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, Thai – but am just a beginner, except for Cambodian, which is the only foreign language I’ve ever had to use; I worked with Cambodian refugees as a missionary for a year and a half back in the early 90’s. I also studied French for 4 years, have been learning Scots Gael, Salish, Navajo, Greek, Latin, and am also learning American Sign Language, which I’m totally loving!

I feel that living in a foreign country will give me a greater sense of completion with regard to my education.
