Revelation

I slipped the jazz tape into my radio, lounged back, & let my eyes droop shut. The music washed over me as if I were a tranquil, deserted beach, and the music was the gentle waves of the sea. It seemed to be a vast & mighty ocean of which only a small portion could reach me; and I knew that far away the waves may be tempestuous, but here & now there was only the soothingly rhythmic lapping of the waves upon my soul.

Maybe my own mind was similar to the ocean; and the music like the sea-creatures which inhabit that ocean, perpetually swimming through my imagination. Eventually, each individual piece of music must wither and die to make room for another waiting to be born.

Perhaps I myself was a part of the music, one note out of the entire symphony composed of all mankind. Sometimes there is dissonance, but somewhere else there is always harmony.

A writing assignment for 10th grade AP composition…not my favorite piece I’ve ever written, but I kept it for historic purposes…not much of my teenage writing has survived the years.
