And just to prove it exists, here’s some more info on this loco with a shot of the same one at it’s home.I spent 18 months working at Brush Traction, Loughborough (as a temp) so these are close to home for me. It’s a big pity that the restoration group haven’t kept the paintwork in better condition.
Hi Lensman, it is a pity about the paintwork. This railway restoration could be really good with some decent funding, but every time I go the place seems to be closed. Only open weekends, maybe they are short of volunteers to open up more frequently.
They are probably finding it difficult to get volunteers, as well as donations. It’s pointless keeping a place open if there’s no one to keep it open. Loughborough GCR is probably luckier than some, although I haven’t been there for quite a while. It was there that I actually rode the footplate on Sir Nigel Gresley, albeit for only a few yards. They also once had Bittern (or so I was told, in ‘Silver Link’ colours. (Scroll down to ’Preservation, 4th paragraph.)
I also have pix of 60009 ‘Union of South Africa’ on the Severn Valley line, alas on negative film.
Nice catch of this colourful train…well composed too. >< Ron
