I watched as he shouted
To the giants that died that day
He held up his hammer high and called to Odin for a sign
Thor the mighty, Thor the brave
Crush the infidels in your way
By your hammer let none be saved
Live to die on that final day
Gods, monsters and men
We’ll die together in the end

a homage to this

gods, men, monsters, norse, ragnarok, the end, thor, viking

Raised on a diet of Doctor Who, Tolkien, Dungeons & Dragons and comic books, Simon Sherry has been making monsters from the moment he could put a crayon to a flat surface. Combining elements of post-apocalyptic science-fantasy, post-human horror and a black sense of humour; Simon’s work is preoccupied with notions of humankind’s ability to determine the course of its own fate in the face of forces larger than itself.

I have been reading a lot of Hellboy recently, and I have to say this is dripping with Mignola. Really really good.

  • “dripping with Mignola” – can’t get better than that!

Awwwwwesome! Do you listen to Bathory? Quorthon was the king of viking metal.

  • Thanks man – hadn’t heard of Bathory before, but just found some stuff online that I’ll be listening to shortly!

A very powerful and strong design, I like it.

  • Thanks Lloyd – I’ve been trying to nut this one out ever since I first heard the track it homages many many moons ago, so it’s most cool that people are digging it!

They did a few black metal albums, which I never really took much notice of, but they (it was really just one guy, Quorthon, who unfortunately died not so long ago) produced six viking inspired albums which are just phenomenal. If there was a soundtrack to viking lifestyle and culture, Quorthon was the man to score it. For years I’ve searched for something similar, and nothing even comes close :(
