Pulp Faction Profile: Rhys McDonald

Hello and welcome to the latest Pulp Faction Profile, spotlighting the talent in the Pulp Faction: Comics and Sequential Art group here on the Bubble.

Our next artist is one Rhys McDonald, a NSW-based illustrator with a folio full to the brim with robots, wrestlers, bloodnuts and pin-up girls.

So, without any further ado, we give you…

Rhys McDonald

Occupation: illustrator – editorials mostly

Secret Occupation: Astronaut (kind of still working on that one)

Hometown: Sydney, NSW Australia

Currently Residing: Shoal Bay, NSW Australia.

Influences:
I never really thought about comics until my late teens and picked up Jim Mahfood’s 40oz comics and had a lightbulb type moment in the comic book shop and it grew from there (Eightball was my other lightbulb moment). Now I’m a big fan of Stephen Silver, Jon Adams and Josh Howard. Writing wise Jon Adams, and Howard again, it’ll sound cheesy but my oldest and best friend “Tom”:http://fivethumbsdown.blogspot.com/ is a big influence on me, Mike Mignola as well. I’m pretty much influenced by something if it’s fun or funny or absurdly skewed. That’s what I’m into.

Current projects:
The Plastic Age – The chance for me to, occasionally express something which would often be easier done with a straight blog. Other times just an excuse to make dick and fart jokes, or more often than not, to rag on someone. The comic I’ve had people say they like the most, ends with aged versions of the characters pooping their pants. This amuses, and upsets me.
My main project at the moment is trying secure more work, like an insatiable hunger I desire more delicious jobs at various magazines and other outlets. If anyone is interested, write me (cheap and nasty plugs rule)
There’s also the heavy amount of cheesecake illustrations I’ve been doing lately. I’m not sure what these are all building too but I’m really enjoying them. Then there are my new books, released earlier this month. (details right here)

linkage:
The Plastic Age – general updates and comics, plenty of art, mini comics available from there also (new books will be available there also)
Art Blog – general drawings and other bits and pieces, not updated as much as TPA is, still meaty though.
Redbubble page – If you want to purchase something, get it from here. I’m on the ‘bub a fair bit these days and something is always getting ready to be added
