There’s something here that reminds me of the painter Balthus. Your work is far from his in most ways, but there’s something similar in the skewed whimsy.

I just realized what put me in mind of Balthus, it’s the boy in your Toy Box, his straight arms and legs, his innocent but maybe not so innocent expression. See the male figure in Balthus’s “Le passage du Commerce Saint-Andre,” and the boy in “The Street.” ... My daughter, who’s a college student, will be studying in Capetown this winter and spring. Should I recommend she visit Durban also?
