I was standing in knee deep water on the shore of Lake St Clair, Tasmania and a far from any other living person. It was 4am, the middle of Winter, pitch dark and cold.
I remember fumbling with frozen fingers to set up a tripod and thinking “Steve, what on earth are you doing out here?”, when all of a sudden the first golden fingers of sunlight peirced the clouds and presented me with a truely breathtaking sunrise.
I’ve always thought of photography as more than just getting to the the final image, it’s the story behind that image – the people, the places, the how, when and why. Success, for me, is that moment when my viewer can feel the cold, or taste the sea air around them. Then they are no longer just spectators, they are right there with me.
I treat life as an adventure, and my camera records it.
