狗和猪 Gou he Zhu (Dog and Boar)
Last in a series of 6 oil paintings of the Chinese Zodiac done in the style of Tarot cards by American Artist, Sienna Morris in Guangdong, China.
The Chinese often show the zodiac as couples, complementing each other with their respective faults and strengths. This piece shows the negative aspects on the top and the positive on the bottom.
On the top, the Boar’s negative attribute of procrastination and laziness is exaggerated while the dog’s impomptu judgment and isolationism is so great that he is willing to tear himself apart to protect himself, baring his teeth and ready to fight.
On the Positive side, the knowledge hungry and caring Boar reads a story to the loyal dog who has protectively wrapped himself around the Boar during this moment in their unbreakable friendship.
