Its clear to me that herbie had a mind of his own because he was in fact a robot in disguise! This design depics the scene when his driver walks in on him and realises for the first time. Herbie himself is caught by suprise!
I’m a VW beetle Owner so the design of the transformer lends itself to car mechanics and the new look films as much as it does the toys. hope you like it.
