Custom Grifter

This bike is a Raleigh grifter. These bikes were the original inspiration for the BMX and were first made in the late 70s. Im lucky enought o have owned and restored two of them, thr second of which in a 1983 Grifter XL which this design is based on. Originally a childs bike they are still easy to ride as an adult and poses 3 gears making them an excelent and fasionable beer scooter!

    Ah, I always wanted a Grifter. I suppose this kind was the early version. My mate had one of those blue ones with oversized tubing, gears in the handle grip and I remember it having a hexagonal tyre tread. I was always nicking it off him.

    Actually this kind was the late version with a luggage rack on the back. Still has a 3 speed grip shift and the frames were all the same throughout the range. I also have a silver mark 2 made in 79. It runs me to and from the pub every weekend.
