The Warlock, Warlocks are, among historic Christian traditions, said to be the male equivalent of witches. Likewise, in traditional Scottish witchcraft warlock was and is simply the term used for a male witch.1 In general amongst the Pagan community, a warlock is not seen as a standard male witch, but an oathbreaker or disruptor; hence a male witch is generally considered a witch or a wizard. There are some modern pagan men, however, that are beginning to reclaim the word Warlock just as Modern Wiccans have reclaimed the word Witch. They find that since the majority of practitioners of Paganism, Wicca especially, are women, that having a moniker to denote that you are a male practitioner of Wicca is more egalitarian and less confusing to those who aren’t familiar with the true meaning of such words as Wiccan or Witch.
