Bull Run Fire, Near River Kern, Behind Kernville 7/26/2010 by

This was a fire caused by humans. Although thought to be accidental, that doesn’t change the fact that thousands of acres burned leaving wildlife and six families burnt rubble where the they once had homes.

July 26, 2010
The Bull Run Fire, near Kernville, California is now a 2,400 acre fire, according to Forest Service personnel. Officials said flames have destroyed six homes and prompted evacuations.

Update 08/21/10
This weeks’ paper said the fire is 100 percent contained, and that the number of homes lost is now eight. I’m not sure what the final estimate on acreage burned will turn out to be. As far as I know, no human lives were lost.

Several people I know had to evacuate work or their homes, and some are right on the fire line.

Here’s a BIG THANK YOU to the firefighters!

Taken with a Canon EOS Rebel XS from the South Fork Marina.

Personal Note
Please say some prayers for the people whose homes and livelihoods are in danger, and for the fire fighters risking their lives to fight this fire.
7/27/10…fire still not contained.
7/30/10…still going.
08/21/10…fire is 100% contained, according to this week’s paper.

  • Sarah… if you have time, look at this link
A friend emailed to tell me that the 6 p.m. news showed my photo, and they included it in their on-line gallery with other local photos.
Although the fire is not contained, I think it is moving further away from the closest town. I’ll know more tomorrow.

Amazing shot Corri- what a dreadful worry this is. Stay safe my friend.

  • Thank you, Rose.
Wildfires are a worry every summer here.
This one is across the lake…but near the hotel my brother is supposed to be staying in next week….and of course I worry about the people and animals who live there…not to mention the 2400 acres that had burned as of last night.
