Every time I see a Mexican Bird of Paradise, I think of my Nonnie…my grandmother. She loved these plants, and grew many of them. We lived in the high desert, and while other plants whithered, the hardy and beautiful Mexican Bird of Paradise flourished. Many years after she died, I came back to where she once had lived and found a thicket of these beautiful plants.
This particular plant is in my neighbor’s yard, and at the end of the season, I’m going to ask for some of the seeds so I can continue my grandmother’s tradition in my garden.
