A couple of hundred metres south of the Broadford to Elgol road through Strath Suardal, near to Loch Cill Chriosd, lies the ruined village of Cill Chriosd (Kilchrist).
One school of thought suggests that this is the ruin of the Manse which housed the succession of Ministers of the nearby Cill Chriosd Kirk. Another school of thought suggests that this is the last remaining building of the marble quarrying works which existed here from the 18th century to the early part of the 20th century.
I don’t know enough of the history of the area to make a pronouncement one way or the other, but both suggestions seem equally plausible. Either way, to coin a well-known phrase, it’s a wild and lonely place!
