“Iron is full of impurities that weaken it. Through forging, it becomes steel and can be transformed into a razor-sharp sword – human beings develop in the same fashion”.
My main goal for this shoot was to portray strength. Upon thinking on it, I guess strength comes in 2 forms, external and internal. I think many of us spend our life dedicated to the pursuit of the external type. This type of external strength is based on validation from others. The internal strength only requires one main element and that is to believe in oneself.
With internal strength competition becomes irrelevant. It is not defined by gender or limited by age. It does however require us to let go of fear & inhabitations and to trust.
True strength doesn’t require validation or proof. It only requires belief in one’s self.
I find portrait photography and interacting with the subject quite difficult, yet I find I learn so much from the process about others and ultimately myself. Although, the more I do it, I seem to acquire more questions rather than answers. I guess it’s important to enjoy the process of discovery and not worry on finding the actual answers. Hopefully that will eventually happen of its own accord.
