Artist's Description

I created this based on a Jewish idea that G-d created the Universe with words…“G-d spoke let there be light” and I remembered a story in the Midrash (famous Jewish scholarly text) about how the letters of the aleph-bet each asked to be the first letter when G-d created the Torah.
I was painting this idea of the Universe being made of Hebrew letters and flowing together in a Milky Way of light and stars. It occurred to me that random Hebrew letters wouldn’t be as interesting. I don’t speak Hebrew at all so I went to my Art Scroll prayer books and found the appropriate words on the very first page opened.

If you happen to know Hebrew there is a message within the painting that is not too hidden. The loose translation is:
Everlasting One, Awesome, Exalted, and Holy

11.5 x 15

Painted with M. Graham Watercolors on 300lb Arches Watercolor paper
