this is the coolest thing I have ever seen. The Endeavour was flown right over Las Cruces, New Mexico today, September 20, 2012. What a sight!
*LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – Space shuttle Endeavour flew over White Sands Missile Range Thursday morning making its final flight piggybacked to a 747.
The fly-bys are an acknowledgement of New Mexico’s role in the shuttle program.
Shuttle pilots trained at WSMR, and the shuttle Columbia landed at the range in 1982. The nearby NASA Johnson Space Center helped support shuttle missions.
It was next heading to Tucson, Ariz., to honor former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and then on to Edwards Air Force Base in California.
In mid-October, Endeavour will be transported down city streets to the California Space Center. Endeavor traveled almost 123 million miles during 25 space missions.*
