Here you can see that this corridor has been quite badly damaged by fire, as well as some of the doors being pulled of their hinges. I think given another two or three years and this section of the asylum will not be standing, at least not for the most part.

i like this perspective showing the light coming through. i don’t think i would like to be in this place after dark though. :)

  • I’ve been in a few of these places after dark, and it is a bit strange, especially as the rotten wood and burned wood etc creaks so much. Some of the places we do, such as the war room i’ll be uploading next, are completely underground so it doesnt matter what time of day you are there it is always going to be pitch black. A good torch goes a long way :)

great capture of a decaying piece of history – well captured!

  • Cheers Andy, well worth capturing as like i say, i dont think this will be there for much longer. This place is actually not too far from my home so no doubt ill be going there again in the future.

i probably watch too many ‘ghost hunter’ type shows. ;)

  • Lizzie, i know entirely what you mean, one of the guys who comes along with me regularly is a huge horror fan and he gets himself scared quite often in these places, his mind running away with him thinking about scenes from movies etc :)

and perspective too….. if this place isnt haunted then no-where else has the right to be.

  • Haha, i dont know about haunted, but we did get a fright once to walk into a room to find a junkie using it as a home.

wonderfully done, great lighting, treatment, framing, textures, love it, really does lend itself to a ghost or horror story (im a horror nut too). could see it as an illustration in a book

  • There is just something intrinsically spooky about an abandoned asylum, they do lend themselves so well. I was talking to a mate about this yesterday and im thinking of getting myself a straight jacket, so if we bump into anyone while walking about they will just see me walking about in that and get scared stiff :P

Its too bad, such a beautiful building & they didn’t protect it. Glad you’re photos will preserve its history

  • Yeah, and sadly its right on the edge of a really rough area as well, so lots of idiots about to trash it. As you say though, at least the photos preserve it.

I could look at this for ages – the hallway really draws the viewer in – the blue doors are a real feature – your framing is spot on – you really are the expert on ‘derelict’ buddy!

  • Cheers Rosalie, i dont know about expert, i just put myself in enough of them to have a bit of experience with them :)
