Upstairs
These were so lovely that coming at them from any new angle gave you an entirely different shot that you just had to take. Someone had obviously stolen the brass rods as you can see from the carpet being bunched here, but thats so very little to worry about when i think about what they could have done here.

Richard, when you look at some of the junk that is being erected these days in the name of architecture, this building should be preserved for posterity to show people of the future what buildings should look like … with character and splendour. I’d love to see this place … but there again … looking through the comments I guess I am not alone in this desire.
Richard Shepherd replied
Dave, i entirely agree mate, not enough of this old school stuff is still standing and what is made to replace it isnt a patch on the older stuff!

jwinman
looks very grand… but I would have been nervous climbing those stairs!
Richard Shepherd replied
Why nervous, they are made of marble, they are safe as you like :)
~Shepy
jwinman
they look like the are sagging a lot…
Richard Shepherd replied
Ahh no, thats just the carpet pulled a bit too taught so it doesnt follow the profile of the steps, and sagging between edges. The steps just under them are pure marble :)
