Mad artists
Mad artists belongs to the following groups:
Painters In Modern Times - TWO PER DAY and The Artistic NudeWe really are a mad lot, aren’t we, Artists that is,
What is it that makes us do, what we feel we have to do?
Why are some of us gifted in this way, and others are not?
Dancers, Writers, Singers, Sculptures, Painters, and Creative Photographers
What is it that drives us all to try and create what our hearts feel?
We all must have been born under a lucky star.
As for myself being a mixed up Sagittarian, I don’t know the answers, all I know is that I have to draw or paint.
The passion, and frustration builds up, nearly driving me mad until I put pen to paper, and then I’m happy until the anticlimax of the final strokes.
How is that we can see the beauty in the simplest of things that others cannot?
Standing and looking at a group of pebbles or rotting paint on an old fence covered in lichen, the morning dew on a spiders web, a drop of water hanging on a leave.
Are we really Mad, I sometimes wonder, when my friends give me funny looks, but then they marvel at what I have painted. So all the information that one gathers in our walks of life, is somewhere hidden within our arts.
Perhaps we have a lot of love to give, and the arts are just one way of giving pleasure to others.
We are passionate lovers too, wanting our spirits to melt and entwine within our partners, or lovers.
Even through our eyes we see the beauty in others, I have often had to walk up to a stranger and complement them on how beautiful they are or how nice there dress is, and very often feeling quite embarrassed afterwards.
So are we all really a mad lot?

No my friend, we’re just plain obsessed and some of us in varying degrees. The good news is that it’s okay to be creative, and bring our art to others less fortunate to have this kind of talent as long as we don’t cut off an ear or something like Van Gogh…LOL

Wonderfully written, Eric. I want to read it again and again.
I believe we are no more special as artists, than anyone from any other walk of life, doing an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay, but we are certainly more fortunate. With all the anguish and tears, failures and rejections, hard work and triumphs…I am thankful every single day to have been born with this calling.
Thank you so much for this luvlee post. I will include it in our next group update.

Mad, and blessed.

Interesting that your are a Sagittarian – as I am. But then those star-readers and fortune-tellers do say that being artistic is trait of those under that sign. Could be interesting to have a survey. I think you have to be very observant and have the ‘gift’ of seeing beauty in many things, which others might be blind to, to be a good artist – certainly not mad. You’re one of the best Eric.

Absolutely, but we are not blind.. It’s the reflections that purculate within us that we must resolve in paint or pen or pencil … we may be mad but the madness is glorious when its done.

I love your writing…a la Jack Kerawac (not sure of spelling)...free flow and spontaneous. I am also Sagittarian…from my sag experience we are a very observant lot…we also see truth and are more spiritually inclined than physically bent…although some might dispute that last bit…lol. As I see it…this is a mad world anyway…we all just fit in although artists do tend to see a lot more. I also believe it is a gift and as such should be appreciated by giving back to those not having such a gift…to be able to learn from through our eyes. This world would be a very dull place without writers, poets, photographers, artists, performers and other creative souls to enliven it with the gifts they have been given to share… also, your art works are stunning :)

Not says I we just see with eyes a bit more open then the average everyday joe. Beauty is in most things if one is open to it. If madness its called by some then sign me up for the nearest asylum because I dont wish to see any other way. :) Great writing!

Thank you for sharing these thougths…. I often wonder if I’m mad or just slightly different, a little more open and sensitive to the surroundings…. Noticing the detail more than others, seeking out beauty and appreciating the world as we know it…. For further processing and artistic expressions…. Self reflections are truly great… we need those moments….. I’m thankful for RedBubble in that after viewing and reading art here, I know I’m not the only ‘mad’ person around… and that in itself offers such a relief… For as long as there are people who feel even remotely similar way, our ‘madness’ takes on some sort of perceived normality and that helps with self acceptance and appreciation of all the gifts we have… 8)

Eric dear, we are not mad and if we are I say..VIVA LA FINE ARTISTIC MADNESS..
I am much like you, when I get that urge to create, I drop everything and for days on end I draw, paint etc.. Love that madness..

Yes—perhaps especially if we are willing to starve to death, rather than seek some other productive gainful employment that might put food on the table.
