Scarab and Lynx
A female common Lynx Spider Oxyopes quadrifasciatus. They have good vision although their eyes are relatively small. They have eight eyes, in the pattern four rows of two so don’t try sneaking up on them! The name Lynx was given because of the way in which they hunt (slowly approaching their prey before a swift attack). Lynx Spiders do not build webs but hunt small insects on plants like this poor Green Scarab Beetle Diphucephala FAMILY SCARABAEIDAE. In early summer Scarab beetles will gather in large numbers and devour the leaves of whole trees, as they did in my backyard. Unfortunately this beetle ended up being dinner instead.
