  • Torfinn Johannessen

    Torfinn Johann...

Great closeup. Doesn´t know what it is though.

  • Shelley Warbrooke replied

Cheers Torfinn! I hope someone figures out what it is, I’m so intrigued now! I have no idea whether it’s a moth or a beetle or what. I’ve looked at all these difference species and nothing even comes close!

Wow. Wonderful shot. And so funny. It is the first time I could say from an insect that he is cute. Seems to come from the universe of Neverending Story or something like that.

  • Shelley Warbrooke replied

He certainly is cute isn’t he! I have to say I’ve been finding a lot of bugs cute lately, even a couple of spiders (and I am terrified of them!). He certainly does look very otherworldly though, his eyes are really alien! Thanks for your kind comment Patrick, really appreciate the favourite too :)

It’s a Weevil. There are over 60,000 species of Weevils in several families worldwide, mostly in the family Curculionidae. Weevils are a particular type of Beetle and typically have long noses/snouts.

  • Shelley Warbrooke replied

Oh my goodness, you’re absolutely right! Thank you so much for the info, it’s been bothering me since I put it up!

    Peter Martin

looks like one of those S.M.A.R.T bugs that the US Defense Force has developed.

  • Shelley Warbrooke replied

Creepy! They’re out to get us! I do believe though that this guy is merely a weevil. Bizarre and alien looking but seemingly harmless :)

  • Peter Martin

    Peter Martin

They are indeed out to get us – and with all the intelligence of a weevil!
    Scary stuff indeed!
