Artist's Description

Manta ray (manta birostris) caught in mid flight as it flew above my head on the corner of a bay……wonderful!
These rays often have remora fish attached to them by a special sucking disc in the place of a dorsal fin – you can see 2 of their tail fins in the silhouetee of the manta above. The remora hitch a ride and use the manta for transport, protection and there is discussion as to wether the remora lives on food debris that the manta eats or if it waits until any food has been digested and lives on it’s faeces.
