Baaa Vinci
2008, Acrylic on Canvas, 24” x 18”
Leonardo DaVinci must have been quite the character to have at a dinner party. I’m sure his conversations sparked some rather awkward moments as well, simply because his way of thinking was different than that of the general population. Hmmm… maybe a case of Aspergers Syndrome?
Some would probably call him “weird”; others “genius”. Either way, he was one of the most influential people in history. And his most famous work, The Vitruvian Man, is in essence a measuring tool for the human form. Applied to sheep, it sets a standard of proportions and silliness, which is why Baaa Vinci is the painting which begins by Sheep Incognito book.
I used earthy, old-world colors to give it the aged feel of antique paper. My favorite part is the the paunchy belly of this guy – quite contrary to the old fashioned, six-pack that DaVinci’s guy had. Meet the new beauty standard.
I’ve been asked what the writing at the top of the painting means. Well, in true sheep manner they’ve followed the master and wrote Baaah, baaah, baaah maaah, maaah baaahbabamah, baaamaaah, in mirrored writing there….
It must be something about the hidden agenda of Sheep Incognito.
