Hummingbird Clearwing Moth 01 by Darrell Sharpe

Currently unavailable for purchase

I had the rare occasion to photograph one of these on Saturday. I was checking out some bees that were buzzing around these flowers and next thing i knew there it was. Quite a surprise. It was about twice as big as a full size bee. Best i can describe it, is that it has a feeder tube like a bee or a hummingbird, a tail like a lobster and clear reddish wings shaped like a butterfly. It was strange! I showed it to my in laws (we were visiting them) and they’ve never seen anything like this before.

I snapped a bunch of shots, but unfortunately the wind was really blowing and i was shooting at a long range to get close with a nice dof. So i have a couple of decent ones, I hope you all enjoy them.
