Short-beaked Echidna Tachyglossus aculeatus. Also known as the Spiny Anteater. Echidnas are found Australia wide inhabiting a variety of habitats. This one was photographed in south-west Western Australia.

Thanks so much Tina. They are pretty unique. One of the inly 3 monotremes (egg-laying mammals) in the world. The other one in Australia is the Platypus. The echidna is pretty harmless. They use their spines in defense against foxes etc
