An Ethnography of Spirit

Sophie Shapiro

An Ethnography of Spirit

I dreamt a dream! What can it mean?
And that I was a maiden Queen
Guarded by an Angel mild:
Witless woe was ne’er beguiled!

And I wept both night and day,
And he wiped my tears away;
And I wept both day and night,
And hid from him my heart’s delight.

So he took his wings, and fled;
Then the morn blushed rosy red.
I dried my tears, and armed my fears
With ten-thousand shields and spears.

Soon my Angel came again;
I was armed, he came in vain;
For the time of youth was fled,
And grey hairs were on my head.

    This is so Beautiful Sophie,the colors gave my goose bumps when I first saw it..
    The movement in it just captured me. I believe I will sit here for awhile and gather all the smiles it gives to me.

    But – ‘spirit’ is, in the end, ‘ALL’..... isn’t it? The flow of it is the energy that creates life – IS life… it’s a bit difficult putting this into words, it’s more a sense, a feel…

    Very beautiful work! I read your bio, really like what you say and I can see from your work that you know how to step out of the way to let spirit be expressed. I don’t work as consciously as you do but I am aware that there is something in my work, an energy, and I didn’t put it there. I never feel like I was the one creating but that I only made something that already existed appear, don’t know if you get that feeling… You are very fortunate to see spirit and even more fortunate to let it guide you. We are all able to see/feel in one way or an other but very few people open to it and trust, you do, that’s really wonderful! To me art is a partnership with spirit, something you are practicing so well! Anyway, just a little sharing :)
    This is a wonderful painting, I love the texture and I can see a face, a very intensely focused face becoming more and more visible as I stare. I really like the light too. You let things flow through you beautifully!
