Adam, Lilith and Eve ( Painting Series Number I)
One day, it thundered and lightened.
Two women, fairly frightened,
Sank to their knees, transformed, transfixed,
At the feet of the man who sat betwixt;
And “Mercy!” cried each—”if I tell the truth
Of a passage in my youth!”
Said This: “Do you mind the morning
I met your love with scorning?
As the worst of the venom left my lips,
I thought, ‘If, despite this lie. he strips
The mask from my soul with a kiss-I crawl-soul, body, and all!’”
His slave,
Said That: “We stood to be married;
The priest, or some one, tarried;
‘If Paradise-door prove locked?’ smiled you.
I thought, as I nodded, smiling too,
‘Did one, that’s away, arrive—nor late
Nor soon should unlock Hell’s gate!’”
It ceased to lighten and thunder.
Up started both in wonder,
Looked round and saw that the sky was clear,
Then laughed “Confess you believed us, Dear!”
“I saw through the joke!” the man replied
They re-seated themselves beside.

Vickie, I have been thinking about Lilith since seeing Paul’s work yesterday. I couldn’t get her out of my mind. I’ve been painting since the early hours and have decided to do a series of paintings dedicated to her. There have been so many thoughts, ideas and inspirations going through my mind that I felt these images needed to be displayed. Thank you for commenting on this work and I’m really pleased that you are drawn by the figure in red. Good luck with your new group! Thinking of you and sending you a big hug!Sx

Hmm .. well, I can’t say the poem full on makes sense to me, but I do like the painting!

Browning is another poet to wrote on the subject of Lilith, but his portrayal is very different from the works of Rossetti. His poem, Adam, Lilith and Eve is almost a positive version of Lilith. Unlike Rossetti, Browning focuses on Lilith’s emotions rather than her physical desires, making her more three dimensional than before. Arletta, all through history men have blamed the misfortunes on the world on one woman or another. In the 21st Century I think it is time that women re – affirmed the truth. Even Adam, having two women still could not accept the consequences of what he symbolically did. First it was Lilith and then, Eve. I could mention a list of women that were victims of their times. I feel very strongly about this issue and the injustice that followed so many women. These issues still effect many women all over the world. It is such a vast subject that I couldn’t possibly answer to these issues here. I’m pleased Arletta that you like the painting and the essence of womanhood. I hope you’re having a good day! Sending you my very best wishes! Sx

Aglaia, I’m so happy you feel that this is a strong piece of work! Learning is an active state defined by doing, made possible through awareness without assumptions. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! They mean a great deal to me! I hope you have a wonderful week! Thinking of you!Sx

Legions of us, all combining forces, on a journey to make powerful the final triumph. Such a strength of feeling this inspires Sophie. Womanhood stands proud. Great depiction.

Stillness exists only through harmony, of body and mind, bringing freedom from thought without conflict, violence and blame. There have been many teachers in the world who have taught and suggested that systems do not transform people; people transform systems! Thank you Jenny for your support and understanding, which I value and appreciate immensely! I hope you have a wonderful week, thinking of you and sending you my very best wishes!Sx
