The Four Essences

Sophie Shapiro

The Four Essences

There are four essences in the universe these are Fire, Water, Earth and Air.

Starhawk eloquently wrote in a Samhain poem:

When we invoke the elements of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth,
We are saying we know what is necessary to sustain life
And we pledge ourselves to care for it and preserve it…

Wonderful flow and feeling to this piece…it looks like a beautiful waterfall:)

Water is an ancient and universal symbol of purity, fertility and a source of life. In a general sense, water is an emblem of all fluidity in the material world and of dissolution, mingling, cohesion, birth and regeneration. Water of all kinds may be credited with sacred and curative properties and as gifts of the earth and sky….something we all need! I’m glad you like it! Thank you Robin!Sx

beautifully powerful, i can see a figure in the right hand lower corner, it seems he is the one who calls the elements, which are all presant, great movement and flow, this is one of my deffo favs..well done Sophie x

Dawn as you probably know water is equated with wisdom, as in the Daoist image of water always finding its way around obstacles. Restless water is a Buddhist symbol of the impermanence of all things; still water symbolizes mediative insight….which we all need! Thank you for your wonderful comment!Sx

Reminds me of a dream image. Stunning, beautiful, magical, mysterious. The knowing we know; sometimes without knowing.
