A Poem - Dreams

All Things Poetic, Artistic, PhilosophicalStormy resolutions thumps in her eyes,
She mutters crude sentences composed of lies,
Blood red lightning stains her whites,
Skin pale and yellow, her lip she bites!
Like a rabid dog, she sweats and shakes,
In her blotchy arms her baby wakes,
Through a myriad of madness she holds her child,
She hears him cry, her eyes are wild!
Alone in this hell hole, alone in this grime,
Just one little hit, just one last time,
Her grimace turns skyward, she blocks out the screams,
A syringe all she needs to return to her dreams!

I realise that this is a little morbid but i saw a doco on SBS about heroin and i guess it just really hit home the extent of the problem.

it may be bad but is way in front of ice & the damage it causes. very apt prose!

OMG Shannyn this is amazing! I wish I knew someone with a new born so I could make an image to go with this.. so powerful.
The worst thing about these mothers is that there are so many couples out there that would ‘give’ their right or left arm to have a child..

What a nightmare for a poor baby to endure! if it can endure.
Well done, it paints a picture.

Thanks for your kind comments… It is lovely to have such wonderful artists comment on my work – It’s a sad piece but unfortunately it’s a reality for a lot of people :(
