Autumn in Ontario, Canada is inspiring for artists, with trees transforming into a rich, warm palette, and an abundance of apples. McIntosh, Courtland, Spartan, Gala — the variety can be overwhelming — in baskets and bags, crowding the stores and at the many weekend markets. The best way to get apples, though, is to drive to one of the umpteen farms that open for people to pick their own fruit. We are driven out, in hay-lined wagons pulled by tractors, to the orchards, where we can twist the red and green beauties right off their trees.

Fruit and Coffee is my first painting. Acrylics on 20" X 16" canvas.

I am a Canadian artist. When I was younger, I drew a bit with pencil, charcoal, and oil pastels. I started painting in 2009 when I got the urge to play with colour. I took a few casual classes, but I haven’t painted long enough to feel like I know what I’m doing. Being part of the redbubble community encourages and inspires me to keep working at it. I never get tired of looking at the incredible variations of talent on display here in RB!

Thanks, Sue! Yes, this was my first painting. Took me about 36 hours because I didn’t know what I was doing. The cloth was very difficult. Your kind words give me hope!

As I spent many years painting in oils I know what it is like to have a brush in your hand.
I have been very lucky as everything I ever painted has been sold.
But these days I have replaced my brushes with a lens.
So when I say I like the balance in this and the level of color, I am not just saying it to please..
Also, I like how the curved lines in the cloth off-set the straight lines of all the items.
    Keep up the good work.

  • Thank you so much Larry. I am very encouraged by your observations. I’ve checked out your work and I can see that you’re very talented. Your photos have a clarity and confidence about them that tell me you know what’s what.
