DUBROVNIK/CROATIA/OLD TOWN

Death in Dubrovnik…............

well WHAT did happen to…..........BRITT LAPTHORNE

this title has to do with the complexities of a missing girl….....

For those who live outside Australia you maybe interested to know that BRITT LAPTHORNE/ 21-year-old Melbourne woman went missing from a nightclub in the Croatian town of Dubrovnik on September 18. Her body was found many days later washed up near rocks not far from the city centre.

At the end of last year I was fortunate enough to visit this wonderful city of DUBROVNIK…...........I felt I had found paradise and had been told this was a most magical place to take photographs. And yes/ I had found paradise and started to wonder about the war here in ‘91 /Death in Dubrovnik…...and then I started to think about this beautiful young woman taken tragically away from her family.

I walked the streets of the Old City and surrounds for nearly a week. The more I thought about her the more I wanted to find out about her and so sat in a local internet cafe and tried to read as much as possible about her. So this only made me think more about this young woman and how her family must have felt at the time .So then as I walked the streets every crack in the old walls /every crack in the pavement I photographed /I asked myself did she walk this way….........did she see the beauty I was seeing…....

I had to favourite this…..not just because it is a brilliant image and so effective in every way…..but because of the emotion evoked here and the fact that you truly have walked where she walked, and I also believe you have felt her energy because as your words unfold, so too do images of a life cut short and a mystery that only she can solve….. I FELT this work…..just as you felt her footsteps in the paths you took in this ancient city….

    A Mystery…..........

This image was taken just near the entrance to the Old City. This area is usually abuzz with tourists and locals but the image was taken late afternoon. The Fuego Latino Club is situated to the right of the 1st bus/latticed roof.

The image /the nightclub/has been removed by persons unknown so this makes it even more mysterious

Oh, the perspective, the contrast between the hard and harsh reality of the buildings with the soft humanistic quality of the washing line. Are the buildings crushing humanity or is humanity stubbornly bursting through like a poppy in bloom? Tremendous piece that I have missed (until today).
