African Dancer

Shamila Chady

Nottingham, United Kingdom

Artist's Description

In a crowded street in Accra a whole community started to gather as the drumming and dancing, a ceremony to mark the death of a fellow performer, begun to take over the shanty town street in the heart of Accra. Bare feet thudded into rough tarmac as the hypnotic rhythm of the African drums became faster and wilder, and the performers, almost possessed by it, tapped into the African heart, the African vibe, the pure energy of a moment in time where we were all one. This is what it means to be alive.
