Life, for me, began looking south over the silvery Tay to the Kingdom of Fife, in Scotland. My mother had Scandinavian forebears from across the water in Gothenburg, Sweden, and my father was a Scot from Perthshire. I don’t know if that makes me a ‘Scede’ or a ‘Swot’ so I don’t use either term. I am John Dewar, a photographer based on Orkney, those little dots just north of Scotland.
For me a camera is a fantastic way of looking at the natural world. Seeking out pictures encourages me to look deeper, seeing things I might otherwise have missed. I feel a successful photograph is one which transports the viewer into the scene, evoking sentiments that arose at the time of its taking.
Through sharing my images I hope to be able to reveal corners of our amazing world the way they seemed to me when I was lucky enough to be there. Please feel free to comment on anything that catches your eye.
