Gawthorpe Hall

Gawthorpe Hall ,Padiham,near Burnley ,Lancashire,England.The hall was built between 1600 and 1605, around the existing 14 th century tower (built in 1323),by the Shuttleworth family. The family lived there until the last member died in 1970 and the hall was given to the National Trust.

    Wonderful capture of this beautiful building. When we were kids and living in Sydney in the 1940s & early 1950s my brother had a friend by the name of Shuttleworth – its not a common name here so I wonder if his ancestry could be traced back to here. Interesting!

    Wow, stunning piece of architecture….it’s amazing how all your really old buildings always remind me of your country’s link to mine, our old convict built buildings here in Tasmania share so many of the characteristics….and again beautifully captured….
