leaving winter behind

you want to focus on the present
as if you were suddenly grown up and matured
‘the past is the past’, so you say
and as these words fly from your lips
like little black birds flying south,
in your numb blue haze of reality
(the universe of shadows you live in)
you don’t even realize
that I have become
the winter that your little birds are avoiding
frozen and void of color

you can’t even see beyond yourself that
I am this past
that you now discredit so easily

    OMG PJ,

heartbreak on its own is enough to deal with
but when one is felt to feel as though there was nothing, it was not real, and so forth. To be ignored in this sense is what I find the hardest to deal with.

I wish I could wrap my arms around you.

    Love you xoxoxo

  • Oh Lisa, such fragility becomes us.. sometimes people love us but they don’t know how to share love, and they are too simple minded to understand the separation process has begun.. I feel your warmth around me now. Love you back, sister friend. xx

oh this is a painful reality… I like how you ‘thickened’ the black bird metaphor- by reintroducing it towards the end. a poignant and impressionable write.
I feel like I have been the left behind winter of many past relationships…
    all the best now :)

  • Fortunately seasons change, and after winter comes spring and new things bloom without even planting the seeds ourself.. hope you’ve had as many springs as you have winters.. xx

One of my pet peeves is when someone uses living in the now to block off their world or turn away. There is nothing about living in the now that is heartless cruel. Wonderfully written.

  • I couldn’t agree with you more, Tony. Thank you for sharing. In the end, those are the ones that lose.

if he lives in a universe of shadows, he does not see the beautiful bright red winter cardinal, and so many other beauties to the season that remain. and if he obviously ever really saw you, which how could he with vision so clouded and dark, he would actually be worth being heartbroken over.
but..heartbreak cannot be helped…still at least it does make for some excellent poetry. my heart goes out to you, and please know and remember, you deserve so much better and true love will find you. reaching my arms far to hug you tight. I’m sorry.
sending so much love, shar ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • perhaps sometimes people feel that because they have something in their hands that it will always stay there, even long after they have crushed it into pieces with their sweaty grasp.. thank you darling one, for the uplifting words.. they went straight to my heart and filled my soul with healing.. hugs back to you shar… thank you for your friendship.. xxx

This is so sad ShadowDancer. To be cast aside with the past is painful, erasing your existence, as easily as erasing pencil from paper. Heartbreaking and yet you have written such deep sorrow with such exquisite beauty, so poetically lovely, as birds take flight across time. A beautiful piece of poetry. Smiles and hugs to you. :-) xxx

  • definitely a painful plight, but at least it is survivable. winter always shows her face again, with a vengeance. thank you truly for your beautiful and insightful comment. xxx

This is so sad…winter is such a fragile element…as cold as it may be things are easiest to shatter. I can’t help but feel your words like the delicate breaking of glass…this is so real and such a sorrow. But as always there’s great beauty in your words, even the ones that are so heartbreaking.

  • Poetry is your soul miss lowe.. this write is about a breaking indeed.. fortunately hearts are far more mend-able than glass.. it just takes time..
