wonderland

As I approach the blue-mirrored building
and my arm extends towards the door
I catch a glimpse of myself in the glass

and see an alternate reality, where
she floats and smiles listlessly
with a quizzical stare

this other version of me,
this ghostly, spiritual shadow that has
escaped my conscience

she could be anywhere right now,
and the ember that flickers in her eyes

says
she is everywhere
away from here.

A great piece PJ, yes do we really know our self compared to our own
perception of our self – sides that everyone else sees of us often..
and too yes the profound thought away from the familiar and /or mundane,
    our potential untouched perhaps ?

  • ShadowDancer replied

yes, del, yes, all great questions… who are we really? do we ever completely know ourselves? do those that love us ever really know us? can we really be someone else around different people or circumstances? so many questions when thinking about who we really are, and who we should be…

I’ve often thought of alternate realities, and also if I will ever really get to know myself…..maybe not in this lifetime….but who ever knows…..sometimes we stagnate for a while and then we take giant leaps….the right teacher at the right time. xx

  • ShadowDancer replied

so true sweet jane… sometimes we’re in a huge ocean sinking to the bottom trying to find ourselves, other times we seem to have wings, flying higher and better than we expected ourselves to.

those lines really spoke loud about the vanishing spirit in this piece.

  • ShadowDancer replied

vanishing spirit – yeah that’s a great way to put it, i couldn’t have said it better myself. i really was thinking about the ‘other me’ that never has came to be, and the ones that i’ve ignored due to social/life expectations…. you’re very perceptive.

This makes me so sad. Why isn’t she with you?

Beautiful words and thoughts of alternate selves.

  • ShadowDancer replied

sometimes we just aren’t exactly who we thought we would be, or should be… sometimes those pieces of ourselves linger in alternate places within ourselves, wishing to be set free.
