In my dream.
Do you remember the day you told me you loved me?
I don’t think I ever explained
How beautiful your words were to me,
Or how they awakened the bird in my heart
And set him singing…
But nothing lasts forever.
Remember when I told you this?
Smiles and flowers fade, shadows gather
And the world moves on too soon.
You left me standing here,
Alone on the rocky shore of my soul.
The winds blow cold and sharp
And each tear is drowned by the rain.
But the bird of my heart will not sleep.
Still he sings… hush, bird.
And you were here again, last night –
In my dream.
Do you really not remember?

Think all of us know love when we feel it. However so many of us lose faith in the intial feeling if the person we love changes. For this reason I beleive that our proof of love is in really owning the feelings we have rather than relying on other people to stay connected to their hearts and act in ways that prove who we feel them to be.
ShadowDancer replied
Thank you for your insightful comment… spoken with true wisdom and I couldn’t agree more.

i love the imagery and analogy of the heart being a sleeping bird… awoken and hushed. absolutely gorgeous… and a fine penance to the moments that will not let go x

Holly, being new to RB is both exciting and inspiring, it’s fabulous to come together with such talented artists as yourself, and to have you take the time to read my own art is thrilling, so I sincerely thank you. your comment is the cherry on top!

I know that bird. Sometimes he whispers, sometimes he shrieks, but he’s always there. Your poem reminded me of an Inuit myth, “There is a stone at the cusp of the world that measures one mile by one mile by one mile. Every 100 years a bird lands on the stone to sharpen its beak. When the stone has been worn away thusly, one day of eternity will have passed.”
I think you may have found the same bird. He knows patience and won’t ever really go away.
ShadowDancer replied

Mary, thank you very much… the best part of being a writer is when you learn what you wrote is felt by someone else.
