Cage~S.G. Lazarus & G. Roop ~Richmond VA 1974 by

photo booth portraits stashed in a cassette of the duo for all of these years, that is me on the viewer’s left in the black leather jacket, years before it became the punk rock staple garment!

I STARTED MUSIC AND ART WAY BACK IN THE 1960’S. CONTINUED BOTH IN THE 1970’S,WHEN IN ADDITION TO DRAWINGS, I CREATED COLLAGES & PRIMITIVE XEROX MACHINE ART.

I CONCENTRATED MORE ON MUSIC IN THE 80’S AND 90’S, BUT IN THE NEW MIILENIUM I DISCOVERED MY OWN APPROACH TO DIGITAL ART..
MORE RECENTLY i HAVE GOTTEN BACK INTO DRAWING, THO I SOMETIMES TREAT MY DRAWINGS THRU PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE.

Wow thanks for sharing!!! And the last one …. middle finger before it became the American staple hand sign!!!

  • Thanks, Ella, glad you like it!!:)
That middle finger was pretty common among my bunch back in the early 70’s, but speaking of hand signs,it was another of my pals, who was in another photo booth series with us 2, who I think is partly responsible for the popularity of the heavy metal hand sign, you know the little finger and first finger raised as ‘devil horns’.
I did not get to go as it was a school night but my group then went to see Black Sabbath at VCU gym in Richmond, they were just starting out then and it was a pretty intimate gig.
Anyhow, this guy Garry was into Crowley, which is where the hand sign came from. He told me then that he went to the front of the stage and flashed it to Ozzy, who at first looked baffled, then smiled, and flashed it back. Nobody was doing that then, but as Ozzy travelled along with the group and later solo, doing it to all the crowds,it spread like wildfire.:D

Wow what a great story and that is exactly how it happens!!!!! You are packed full of fun wisdom!!!!!

  • Thanks Ella, glad you liked the anecdote. Yep,that is how it happened, wish I could have been there but he told me right after and nobody was doing that then, actually I think it was 1970. If Ozzy didn’t know what it meant somebody must have told him, years later he did a solo song titled “Mr Crowley”.
