I mix drinks on the roof
(there’s a party going on
below)
but here I am
all alone with the stars
for a hat,
and my heart
in a plastic red cup
holding it up
for you:
for every full cup
there’s a man who won’t drink;
and a heart that will not
go on.
Come!
Leave your clothes on the ground,
(there will always be another to wear them!)
and join me up here on the roof,
to drink! To all
to everything.
Have I told you?
I will give you my heart
on a platter
made of cognac and pearls—
If you will allow me this joy?

And I am
never far
