And the chains lay loose at the soles of my feet, and O! does it ever feel good

weightless

chains off

wind

smiling
eyes closed
breathing
home
through my mouth;

my face warm
with autumn
sunlight,
birds eclipsing senses,

senses all
and gone,

mist
on the filigree mountain top,
of a landscape
no eyes
bear see.

A dying leaf drowns my foot
in it’s lineage of death and dying:
“We are found before we are lost.”

It suits me well, this happiness.

So much so—
even twilight spits
my mystery
out.

Dawn comes like a golden dove
fresh off the palm of an angel:
diving in and out of my skull—

tiny white breast feathers
falling
like snowflakes
from my newborn golden
faun ears.

And I find myself
still
in this moment
of smiling,

senseless
in the face
of freedom.
