An extreme close up of the eye of a Toco Toucan – (Ramphastos toco).
I had planned to do this shot in my head while I was driving to Tropical Birdland in Leicestershire.
I copied the idea from a shot of a Hyacinth Macaw from world renown photographer Heather Angel.
The 1st time I EVER copied someone else’s shot….but I just HAD to do it.
It took me about 20 to 30 attempts to get this shot after he kept moving about & nibbling my rubber lens hood to bits…..lol.
So I eventually stuck a grape in the mesh & he had trouble getting at it….he he…..but he stayed still long enough for me to get a good shot.
I could not get close enough to get the EXACT crop I wanted so I had to crop it a teeny weeny bit in PS……feel like I cheated a bit……I HATE to crop.
So there you have it…..

Robert…this felt like a True Confessions read…lol…shot is AMAZING!!!!!!! Worth he transgressions…;))
Thank you SO much Rosie.
I like to compose in the viewfinder & HATE to crop I guess it stems from when I shot slide film…..you cannot crop a slide…..so you have to compose in camera.

When I came to your page, this jumped at me! It’s wonderful. I know what you mean about the cropping, I don’t like to crop either, I feel like I’m losing something of what I worked to get! You worked for this photo, it’s yours…:) They don’t always co operate, do they?
ut of all the shot’s I took this was the best of the rest……..the rest was all over the place…..blurred….not framed right etc….lol.
As for co-operation…..doh……lol
Thank you very much Donna.
