The sacred spiral indicates renewal and cycles of life.

Sun, center of the spiral, is the Giver of Life and Warmth and all that is good.

Eagle, divine spirit, chief of all the creatures in the air, the primary servant of the sun. Powerful in battle, the eagle protects the people from evil. Eagle medicine attributes include clear vision and soaring spirit. The eagle is associated with success, prosperity and wealth.

Circular feather arrangements are found on pottery, in masks, prayer fans, dance costumes and on Plains “war bonnets” They are also used in decoration on buffalo hide “counts”, or story depictions in paint recounting war honors, times of historic contact and other important periods of time. In a circular arrangement, they are related to the sun, and therefore, to the Creator.
