The humour, the comic element in Martin Langer’s photography is seldom staged, he is a close observer of every day life with enormous patience when waiting for the decisive moment. And if it is staged, for instance when portraying toy figures, it is with an almost childish, playful joy that Langer finds in the inanimate object a human gesture, an instinctive humour that leaves the observer smiling. „My pictures“, he says, „don’t claim truthfulness. They reflect a situation. They want to entertain. They are snapshots, documenting humourous situations, throwing a twinkeling glance at every day life.“
Martin Langer, born in Goettingen, studied at the prestigous UAS Bielefeld. Since 1991 he is working as a free lance photographer in Hamburg. His work has been awared with numerous interbational prizes and is found in important collections, both public and private. Martin Langer lives and works in Hamburg, Germany
