i remember the days
when beauty
came easy
i felt it diffuse me
when i breathed
it flowed through me
but now my body
is like a tangled skein
no longer do i move
freely
and beauty
does not come so easy
it crystallizes on my lips
in mid-exhalation
like rain
turned to hail
in its’ impatience
to kiss the earth

LOVELY…beauty is much more than skin deep. As we get older it’s not about what we look like but ‘who we are’ and spiritual awareness, kindness, and love are what matter most…also-a person who is interesting is ALWAYS interesting-regardless of whether or not they look young.

Thanks G – this was really not about physical beauty though. I still get carded for booze. :)
It’s about physical limitations, pain, illness. All of which conspire to make one feel unlovely in a far less superficial way…

I feel this work – like I’ve lived it… Although, truth be told I was never beautiful (though I thought so) :)

    Nice work!

  • Selkie replied

Thank you very much, Anthony. It’s ok, this isn’t really about beauty in any physical sense – and i’m sure we all have plenty of beauty in us…it’s just hard to see sometimes…

It’s funny how experiences can move from the inside to the outside and lets us mirror the darkness into our whole being. Luckily all is temporary and everything passes ;-p
You write beautifully. Like your rythm

  • Selkie replied

Indeed, it does :). Thank you very much, Catherine.
