boy, the boy…

a touch of resurrection at the mouthwash hour

if you want to feel like a man
tend to a garden

a bird shows no fear when crossing the street

i have no rock solid or red hot conclusion more suitable than channel surfing
even what little inner prophet might be left in me
thrives off of a civilized america’s anything-commercialized

i’ve been face to face with women who wear next to nothing for a living

carrying a blue light everywhere

maybe i should just have a drink to fit in
out of shyness and a lack of something to do with my hands
uncalled for medication
inadvertent meditation

well, what about the real brennan?

he’s just a kid
gambling money in tokens at the arcade
with no lady to play ski-ball or air hockey with

the pier was a dream
i could hear the water so much better in the dark
a perfect place to kiss said woman
i could see across the beach to what looked like a city of resorts and resorts…
and the cutest little thing working the desk
notices me as i walk by to check my e-mail

watching springtime come alive in the sobriety of a desperate monday
everything looks sexier during the hours of a work week
with the sun off, the television fills the room with ice cold water
also, a plastic bag knows no fear when blown into the street

i’ll have to be quiet

i’m a creature
uncomfortable being watched in water
now where’d that ball of fire in the sky disappear off to so quickly?
while boys chase girls
both men and women face similar problems concerning beauty
and virtually everything else
while even i reserve the right to look beautiful alone under a streetlight

necessary monster

i used to be the last kid in the neighborhood to go inside
now i’m the last person in the city to go to bed
the last one in building awake to turn the lights out

the small man on the moon dives down into the ocean
he floats face down gradually and peacefully towards the shore
when he reaches land unharmed
he does in fact look both ways before crossing the street

the great “poem man” poem
grabbing warm courage by the bees’ nest
